On the Lower Shore, many senior citizens are without adequate nutrition. They may lack the funds to purchase food or lack transportation to a grocery store; many are simply too physically frail to be able to stand at a stove and prepare a meal.
Seniors suffering from inadequate nutrition can become more vulnerable to falls, have an increased incidence of illness, hospital admission and nursing home placement, and experience a diminished quality of life.
By designating MAC, Inc., as its hometown charity, Buchanan Subaru in Pocomoke City is helping to address this need on the Lower Shore. Through the national 2017 Share the Love campaign, Buchanan Subaru will donate $250 to MAC’s Meals on Wheels program for every new Subaru sold through Jan. 2, 2018.
When considering partnering with MAC Inc., in the Share the Love campaign, Buchanan General Manager Eddie Mears said he was moved by the plight and need of so many senior citizens in Somerset and Worcester counties. In addition, saw first-hand the value of MAC’s Meals on Wheels program, when his father-in-law received home-delivered meals following the death of his wife.
MAC, Inc.’s Meals on Wheels program:
- Ensures that seniors have access to adequate nutrition
- Reduces isolation: For many seniors, the MOW driver is their only contact with the outside world
- Serves as a safety check for frail elderly who are at an increased risk of medical emergencies, falls and accidents
