Have you started thinking about decorating for the holidays? Holiday wreaths will soon grace the main hall at MAC as part of its second annual Festival of Wreaths.
There are two ways to participate: create a wreath and submit it in the competition for cash prizes, or bid on your favorite in the silent auction and if you win, take it home to brighten your home for the holidays! Entries will be accepted beginning Nov. 1.
Categories for wreath entries are:
- Nature’s Bounty: Wreaths featuring natural materials
- Creative Recycling: Wreaths using recycled items or repurposed materials
- Home Sweet Home: Traditional-style wreaths using traditional decorations
- Artisan’s Flair: Wreaths created in a nontraditional style
- Children’s Creations: Any wreath created by children ages 14 and younger
A first-place winner and runner-up will be selected for each category, in addition to an overall Best in Show winner. All wreaths will be judged based on eye appeal, technicality and creativity. First-place winners will receive a cash prize; runners-up will be awarded a ribbon.
All wreath designs should be original; finished entries should not exceed 24 inches in diameter and weigh no more than 5 pounds. No live or cut materials that will wither or fall off during a month-long viewing period, and no scented materials may be used. Battery-operated components are acceptable but will not be turned on during the daytime. MAC is not responsible for items that fall off or break. Only one prize per person will be awarded.
Bring entries to the main reception desk at MAC between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, Monday, Nov. 4, and Tuesday, Nov. 5. All wreaths will be displayed in the main hallway at MAC. The public is invited to come view the wreaths Nov. 6-27, during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Silent auction bidding will open Monday, Dec. 2, and continue through noon on Thursday, Dec. 5.
Contest and silent auction winners will be announced at a reception Thursday, Dec. 5, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at MAC. Wreaths must be paid for and picked up no later than 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9.
