Making a list and checking it twice: 2021 Adopt a Grandparent planning under way

The holidays are truly a magical time at MAC. Staff are working feverishly to gather gifts for local seniors as part of the Adopt a Grandparent program. So many of these older persons on the list are alone and would not otherwise be remembered during the holiday season.
Planning is now under way for the 2021 Adopt a Grandparent program. Would you like to help make sure local seniors are remembered this holiday? There are two ways to participate:
MAC case managers gather first names of clients, along with gift suggestions. Participants contact MAC for a name and wish list, buy, wrap and label gifts with name tags, and then deliver to MAC.
Or, create a gift bag for either a male or female senior. (List of suggested items follow) Include a card if you like and we’ll add the name of a recipient. Don’t wrap these gift items, just use tissue paper. That allows the MAC staff to choose bags which include items that a particular client may prefer/be able to use. Gift bags should be no larger than approximately 18×12 inches, to make it easier for senior clients to handle.
Items that could be included in gift bags:
Personal care items -shampoo, toothpaste, mouthwash shaving cream
Essential items – paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, hand sanitizer, hand soap, disposable masks
Nonperishable staples – tuna, soup, pasta, small serving canned vegetables, or canned stew or spaghetti, etc
Basic clothing – men’s or women’s pajamas, sweater’s, socks and Depends in all sizes
Little extras – word puzzle books, stationary, stamps, envelopes, magazines, gloves and scarves
Gift cards – Walmart, Food Lion, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Apple Drug, Boscov’s, (for groceries prescriptions and essentials), or Dairy Queen, Hobby Lobby or Michaels, Dunkin Donuts for that little something special. Amazon gift cards that can be used to buy online and mail special needs.
Names and gift suggestions will be available by Nov. 15, in plenty of time for Black Friday shopping! Gifts should be returned to MAC by Dec. 13. Depending on COVID restrictions, outside drop off of gifts maybe required.

Thank you in advance to all for helping to make the holiday special for local seniors.

I am so happy I stumbled across this program. My mother in law is a resident in an assisted living facility. It really makes me happy that the residents are being remembered. I am happy to be apart of this event as well as reaching out to others. I am very pleased my sister in- law is a part of such an important cause.

Indeed it is a wonderful program! We love hearing the stories of seniors’ huge smiles and happy tears when gifts are delivered!
