MAC Meals on Wheels driver stops to help older man trapped beneath lawn mower

MAC’s Meals on Wheels program is known for delivering “more than a meal” to seniors on the Lower Shore.
On Wednesday, MAC Meals on Wheels Driver Will Dashield went way above and beyond when he came to the assistance of an older man, who was cutting grass on the side of a steep ditch when his riding lawn mower tipped over and trapped him underneath.
“It was just being at the right place at the right time,” said Dashield, who was finishing up meals deliveries, traveling in the outskirts of Eden.
Dashield lifted the mower so the frightened man could crawl out to safety.
“His legs were pinned under the mower. It was a frightening situation,” Dashield said.
A neighbor saw what was happening and came out to further help the man as he was freed from under the mower.
Dashield is known to MAC staff, clients and many in the community for his big heart and caring for his older neighbors. A MAC Meals on Wheels driver for about 9 years, he stops to talk to seniors on his delivery route whenever possible, “so they know they’re not alone,” he said.
