Large Writ Small: The American Short Story
Packing epic themes into “The Cask of Amontillado,” Edgar Allan Poe is often cited as the father of the modern short story. This class will analyze Poe’s famous tale plus stories by two 20th century American writers who put their unique stamp on his enduring legacy: “Cross Crossings Cautiously,” by Anita Scott Coleman, and “The School,” by Donald Barthelme. Students will be emailed copies of the stories that will be discussed; call 410-742-0505 ext. 118.
Presented by Nancy Hesser (Ph.D., Comparative Literature). Her courses for Eastern Shore programs have focused on short stories, exploring such topics as American regionalism, the Roaring 20s, African voices, Central American literature, and flash fiction.
The cost is $3 for this session
