MAC Meals on Wheels delivers more than a meal

Good nutrition is critical to support seniors’ desire to remain living at home

and to avoid nursing home placement, according to a recent AARP report.

Maryland adopted a new funding formula beginning July 1, 2019, based on population figures.

The result of this new formula changes funding for MAC’s nutrition services.

Nutrition funding from the state for the four Lower Shore counties

will collectively be reduced by 54% for the budget year beginning July 1, 2019.

This reallocation of funds will potentially result in the loss of more than 15,000 meals,

impacting 120 to 150 seniors on the Lower Shore.

Activities are currently under way to expand options for future funding.
