May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a national reminder that mental health is an important part of overall health and well-being. While conversations about mental health are important for people of all ages, they are especially meaningful when we talk about healthy aging, caregiving, and community support.
Â
Mental health can affect how we think, feel, connect with others, and manage daily life. For older adults, emotional wellness may be impacted by a variety of life experiences, including retirement, grief, caregiving, health changes, loss of independence, or social isolation. These challenges can feel overwhelming, but support is available – and no one should have to face them alone. As Your Area Agency on Aging, MAC is committed to supporting older adults, caregivers, and families across the Lower Shore. Through programs, education, wellness opportunities, and community-based resources, MAC helps individuals stay connected, informed, and supported as they navigate different stages of life.
Â
Mental Health Awareness Month is also a reminder that connection matters. Checking in on a loved one, making time for social activities, joining a class, asking for help, or simply starting a conversation can all play a role in supporting emotional well-being. At MAC, we believe healthy aging includes caring for the whole person – body, mind, and spirit. This May, we encourage our community to recognize the importance of mental health, reduce stigma, and help create a culture where older adults and caregivers feel valued, supported, and understood.

If you or someone you know is looking for support, MAC is here to help connect individuals and families with programs, services, and resources throughout the Lower Shore.
