Soles for Seniors Festival offers fun for all ages

Fun for all ages will be on the menu at MAC’s first Soles for Seniors Festival, to be held Sunday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at WinterPlace Park in Salisbury.

Activities include:

5K run: Runners can still register. Prizes will be awarded in various age categories. Registration is $30 in advance, $35 the day of the event. All runners will get a long-sleeve event T-shirt. Seashore Strider Event Production will provide timing for the event. Check-in is 7:30-8:30 am, with the run starting at 9 a.m.

1-Mile walk: Register as an individual or as a team. Advance registration is $20; $25 the day of the event. Everyone who registers will get a long-sleeve event T-shirt; the first 50 registrants also will get a Soles for Seniors visor. Prizes will be awarded to the top fundraising team, top fundraising individual and to the team with the most spirit. Check-in is 7:30-8:30 am, with the walk starting at 9 a.m.

Cornhole Tournament: Two-person teams will compete for cash prizes in this double elimination tournament. Check-in starts at 10:30 a.m. and play begins at 11 a.m. All players get a long-sleeve event T-shirt. Registration is $50 per team.

Craft Fair: An amazing selection of craft items from local artisans will be on sale at the craft fair, to be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Among the offerings: American Girl doll clothes, jewelry, knitted and crocheted items, silk scarves, shawls, purses, wood carvings, holiday ornaments and other décor items,  tie-dye clothing, pickleball gifts and apparel, and much more!

A free children’s game area will offer face painting, kid-size cornhole and lots of other games and prizes.

The Wagner Wellness Van will offer free blood pressure screenings

Wicomico Public Library’s Mobile Learning Lab will be on site, where visitors can check out all kinds of technology, such as laptops, tablets, printers, Virtual Reality headsets, microscopes, Cricut, gaming systems and more.

Enjoy great music throughout the day by LJ The DJ.

Food trucks will offer plenty of choices for those seeking breakfast, lunch or just a quick snack: Kona Ice; pizza, fries, burgers by Moore Pizza; and breakfast sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers and fries by the Powellville Volunteer Fire Department.

Festival proceeds will benefit MAC’s Life Bridges Dementia Day Program and Connections senior activity center.

Life Bridges focuses on quality of life for people with Alzheimer’s or other dementia, and their caregivers. Housed in a specially designed, secure wing of the building, this program offers a robust set of activities designed to enrich the lives of those who attend.

Connections provides a full slate of activities that focus on health and well-being, and provide opportunities for socialization, education, and recreation for seniors.
