African Americans are twice as likely to develop Alzheimer’s, yet face significant barriers in receiving an accurate and timely diagnosis and are vastly underrepresented in clinical trials. This topic will be explored in the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Maryland Conference, “Connected Conversations on the Shore: Alzheimer’s Detection, Prevention, and Awareness in the African American Community.”

The free conference will be held Tuesday, June 11, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at MAC, located at 909 Progress Circle in Salisbury. Lunch will be provided.

Topics and guest speakers will include: “Alzheimer’s Disease in the African American Community: Prevalence, Contributing Factors, and Reasons for Hope” with Lauren J. Parker, associate scientist, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health; and “Who’s Taking Care of the Caregiver: Caring and Coping,” presented by Rita Choula Senior Director, Caregiving, AARP Policy Institute.

In addition, a Specialist Blitz: Meet the Experts is planned.

Registration for this Alzheimer’s Association Greater Maryland Conference is required in advance. To register, visit https://www.communityresourcefinder.org/ResourceView/Index?id=3232489.
